• Support the NSRI and win
  • Main prize: 2 Mitsubishi vehicles worth R850 000
  • Second prize: R250 000 in cash
  • Third prize: Tour dream trip to the value of R80 000
JOHANNESBURG. – Every year, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) works with Mitsubishi Motors South Africa to give members of the public an opportunity to win one of two brand new vehicles worth more than R850 000 while collecting much-needed finance for its life-saving activities.

The competition was held for the first time in 1997 as the NSRI’s main fundraiser and this year the NSRI and MMSA are giving away two brand-new Mitsubishis vehicles worth more than R850 000.

According to the NSRI, water affects the lives of everyone in South Africa - not only people who live close to the coast, but everyone who lives near a lake, rivers or a dam has their own swimming pool.

“As safety is one of Mitsubishi Motors’ most important characteristics, water safety is of the utmost importance to the NSRI – that is what they do,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa.

NSRI Members cover medical evacuation of ships, as well as to respond to situations where swimmers, surfers, rowers, kiteboarders, and others who are in the water, end up in distress.

The NSRI supports fellow rescue services such as fire departments, mountain rescue units, and other emergency medical services.

“Similar to the way we care about or customers’ safety in their Mitsubishi vehicles, whether around their home and work in the city, on holiday or on an adventure into the wild, NSRI members care deeply about marine life as well,” says Campbell.

The NSRI’s main function is to rescue people in distress and take part in training activities to make sure they avoid emergencies through water safety programs.

Mark Hughes, Operations Director of the NSRI, says fundraising for rescue equipment and training is their main drive behind the Double Mitsubishi competition.

“Your once-off donation of R750 will get you a ticket to enter the NSRI Double Mitsubishi Prize Draw. You may take as many tickets as you wish. Tickets are limited to 36 000, so you have an excellent chance of winning.”

The first prize is not one, but TWO Mitsubishi vehicles – this year a Pajero Sport 2.4L 8-speed Auto 4X4 and the Eclipse Cross, together valued at over R850 000,00.

One of the most outstanding visual features of the new Pajero Sport – launched in September 2020 – is its new Dynamic Shield front grille, giving the upgraded version an enhanced, more stylish, and modern look.

The New Pajero Sport uses Mitsubishi’s unique platform, offering seven seats, making it a new-generation all-round SUV that combines off-road perfection and luxury on-road comfort.

The Pajero Sport as NSRI prize is powered by the 2.4ℓ MIVEC DOHC four-cylinder intercooled turbo diesel offering a powerful 133 kW and demanding 430 Nm of torque driving the wheels through Mitsubishi’s advanced 8-speed automatic transmission.

This includes Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system which delivers performance in the most challenging driving conditions and rugged terrain. The pairing between engine and the automatic transmission's wide range of gear ratios provides smooth acceleration and low rpm high-speed cruising that enhances driving efficiency.

Active safety features include active stability and traction control (ASTC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and an emergency brake assist system (BAS) as well as a hill-start assist system (HAS), dusk-sensing headlights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear park distance control and a rear-view camera for safer and easier parking.

“The Pajero Sport is our hero in the Mitsubishi line-up with a truly luxurious, yet practical interior,” says Campbell. This includes outstanding innovation and convenience with a new 8-inch colour LCD cluster with different display options and settings.

The second part of the NSRI Double Mitsubishi pride is the brand’s stylish Eclipse Cross with its stunning and sexy new looks, built for city life and country adventures.

The fuel-efficient and spacious new Eclipse Cross always keeps you and your loved ones safe and comfortable – be that in city traffic or on adventures with family or friends to some of Africa’s remotest areas.

Every detail in the sporty cockpit of the Eclipse Cross has been designed to enhance your awareness and control, so driving feels more natural and intuitive with direct, linear response to every command. Comfort extends to every passenger in the spacious cabin thanks to its supportive contours and plenty of legroom.

Heated front seats and rear seats with reclining and sliding adjustments to optimize the space shared between passengers and cargo. The seatbacks fold flat to make room for bulky adventure equipment, luggage, or any other load.

Although leaving the hustle and bustle of the city behind, its new Smartphone-link Display Audio, also boasting Android Auto / CarPlay, keeps you connected to whatever destination you explore.

Apart from the Double Mitsubishi prize, the competition includes a second prize of R250 000 cash and a third prize of a dream trip to the value of R80 000.

Readers who still would like to participate before the draw in January 2021, can contact Dina at the NSRI Call Centre on 021 430 4703 or send her an email to carcomp@searescue.org.za.

“At Sea Rescue, we believe in the power of the collective. If each of our supporters commits to a monthly debit order, we can ensure that our rescue crew always have the equipment they need to save lives. Some of our supporters prefer a monthly debit order with a chance to win a monthly cash prize; others opt for a once-off ticket with a chance to win two Mitsubishi luxury vehicles,” says Hughes.

The first finalist for the competition was drawn by a representative of Cecil Kilpin & Co. from entries received by 31 July 2020. Two further finalists will be drawn on 18 December 2020.

The three finalists will then be invited to attend a final draw in January 2021 at their expense in Cape Town, officiated by a senior representative of Cecil Kilpin & Co. All entrants will be notified no later than 31 January 2021 of the outcome of the Prize Draw.

Entries are limited to 36 000.

“We are delighted to have been involved with the NSRI Mitsubishi competition for the last few years and look forward to hand over the two new vehicles to its luck new owner in January,” concludes Campbell.
