‘Chery Tiggo 8 Pro’ Review: Spacious, Safe and Exceptionally Advanced

Earlier this year, we were fortunate enough to cover the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. During our time with it, we found it to be an incredibly impressive SUV for its price. The Chery brand has clearly made a concerted effort to have an impactful presence in the automobile market. As a further example of this, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro continues to establish the company as a force to be reckoned with. This vehicle is spacious, safe and exceptionally advanced.

As we embarked on our week with the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Executive we were incredibly impressed with the notable power that is experienced when the start button is pressed. The 1.6-litre engine allows for a surprising pace, especially when sport mode is selected. Beyond its speed, every journey was also accompanied by a feeling of total safety. This will be expanded on later in the article but the Tiggo 8 Pro comes with many features that go a long way in preventing a collision. Compounded by the multi-function steering wheel and adaptable electronic gearshift, a feeling of total control seems ever-present as you sit in the driver’s seat.

Although quite similar in design to the Tiggo 4 Pro, the Tiggo 8 is distinctive thanks to its extended size which creates quite a dominant presence. This continues as you step inside as the 7 seats will fit a full family (and then some). As far as luxury and technology go, this vehicle is certainly a step up in this realm. The elegant trim and futuristic centre console provide a classy tone that makes a definite impact. Furthermore, the 10.25-inch floating touch screen multimedia display is able to deliver a wealth of information in a variety of scenarios. Perhaps most impressive is the 3D view that pops up when the turning indicator is pressed. This feature uses the vehicle’s outside cameras to present an animated model within a real-world environment. As an extra level of safety, this element is incredibly appreciated.

If we compare the price of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Executive with the top-of-the-line Tiggo 4 Pro, the gap is around R200 000. This is truly surprising when you consider how big of an upgrade the Tiggo 8 Pro is. Coming in at R546 900, this vehicle is a real player in the SUV category and deserves a lot of attention. There is now no doubt that the Chery brand has firmly established itself in South Africa.
