Renault
The Renault corporation was founded in 1899 as Société Renault Frèresby Louis Renault and his brothers Marceland Fernand. The first Renault car, the Renault Voiturette1CV was sold to a friend of Louis' father after giving him a test ride on 24 December 1898. Besides cars, Renault also manufactured taxis, buses and commercial cargo vehicles in the pre-war years and during World War I(1914–18). They also branched out into ammunition, military airplanes and vehicles such as the revolutionary Renault FT-17 tank.
During WW I and WW II, Renault produced tanks, which later on served as the base of tractors. The first tractors date back to 1919 and after 1930 Renault produced diesel engines too. In 1977, began the Formula I adventure. Renault joined every race until 1986, and got a second place in the constructors championship of 1983. During this period Renault supplied Lotus and Tyrell with V6 turbo engines.
At end-2008, Renault deployed a new action plan to boost its presence in South Africa. The plan involved new models (including Sandero, produced locally) and improvements in service quality. Renault South Africa is once more taking a bold, optimistic.
Today, Renault is a privately held company well known for numerous revolutionary designs, security technologies, and motor racing. It’s also Europe’s number one brand for cars and light commercial vehicles.
