Lamborghini

The history of Automibili Lamborghini S.p.A starts in 1963 as the brain child of Ferruccio Lamborghini. Ferruccio set out to produce a refined grand touring super sports car to compete with established offerings in this segment - Ferrari. What he created was an automotive manufacturer whose cars were recognised for power, comfort and refinement.

The first car produced was the 350 GTV which the company unveiled at the Turin Auto Show. When the car was unveiled it was a true masterpiece. And inspired the 350 GT model that went into production in 1964. During its history Lamborghini saw the 1973 oil crisis, which plagued sales of high performance cars and brought financial difficulty to the brand and a slump in the revolutionary designs the manufacturer was known for. The company was sold to 2 other parties before it was finally bought by Audi in 1998. Under the German ownership, Lamborghini found the stability it had not seen since the days of Ferruccio Lamborghini.

The iconic 1967 Lamborghini Miura sports coupé (unveiled as the P400 in 1965) is amongst the most acclaimed and sought after models produced by the Italian supercar manufacturer. Its mid-engine design was, in it’s time, a world first and set the stage for many modern mid-engined cars. The illustrious history of Lamborghini cars does not end with the Miura though, cars such the 1969 Espada, the and the 1982 Countach and the Murciélago flagship of 2001. Production of the Murciélago ran from 2001 to 2010.
